This one took me by surprise! I was expecting a highly perfumed, typically Indian snuff and instead found myself with a fine, dry plain snuff. In terms of grind and moisture it is similar to the high dry toasts but darker in colour and the flavour is definitely different. The base tobacco distinguishes Madras from the toasts. To me it is typically Indian while still being plain - if that makes any sort of sense! I am led to understand that the flavour is due to the tobacco being fried in ghee before grinding. That possibly accounts for why I find the Madras relatively easy to take. It gives a bit of a burn and then quite a powerful hit of nicotine. Very tasty! I understand Madras snuff is not easy to find outside India, but if you get a chance to try it you won't be disappointed.
