Another chapter in the book of confusion over the illustrious name of Illingworth's. Since the untimely demise of the Illingworth's factory in Kendal in the early 80s, first Swedish Match took over the brand name (and still seem to produce a snuff by the name of Dr Rumney's Export) and now Van Erkoms seem to be producing a snuff which purports to be the old Dr Rumney's Mentholyptus. In actual fact, and bearing in mind that it is many years since I had any of the old Kendal produced version, I think they have the flavour of this one pretty much spot on. The main difference lies in the grind. While the original was medium fine, this one is medium coarse. Certainly no where near as coarse as the Babaton and Venter's snuffs, but definitely coarser than the original. It comes in a 10g screw top tin, which does have an unfortunate tendency to cross thread, but which does seem to keep the snuff fresh. Well worth a try I reckon.
