HOTT Scenarios for Modern Armour
Arab-Israeli Wars : Chinese Farm

On , October 6th, 1973 the Egyptians launched a all out assault on the Bar-Lev line of defenses on the east bank of the Suez Canal. By Oct. 13th they had successfully pushed the Israeli troops back 10 to 15 miles all the line. Israeli General Sharon, in attempt to force the Egyptians on the defensive before world opinion forced the conflict back to the negotiation table pushed his armoured division forward and crossed the Suez Canal into Africa. However, the Egyptian 16th and 21st Divisions closed in behind him and cut off his line of communications along the Tirtur road at a Egyptian experimental farm dubbed Chinese Farm (so named, by the Israelis, because of the oriental characters on some of the irrigation equipment). Low on ammunition, petrol, food and even water Sharon could not continue his advance until and unless Adan's reinforced Armoured Division could reopen road. Of special importance was Sharon's need for a bridging unit to enable his tanks to cross the canal rapidly.

Deployment
Three Infantry elements and one OT of the 16th Infantry Division set up anywhere within 3" of the Chinese Farm. The Egyptian player may entrench any and all elements under his command. Place a square horseshoe-like marker (60mm by 40mm) around the element. An entrenched element receives a +2 bonus when fired upon from the front or flank and a +1 bonus in close combat, as long as it is not contacted through the rear of the entrenchment. Entrenched troops cannot move for the duration of the game, however. If forced to recoil or flee, these elements are destroyed instead.
The Israeli Paratroop Brigade, sets up anywhere south of the Chinese Farm, but not closer than 6" from the farm, within 6" of the eastern edge. This does not cost the Egyptian player PIPs. He still has his 6 PIPs to command the rest of the 21st Armour Division and the 16th Armour Division, for that turn.
Reinforcements
The first time the Israeli player rolls a "6" for his command PIPs the Baram Armoured Brigade enters the table on the eastern edge of the table, but not within 6" of the northern tableedge. This does not cost the Israeli player PIPs. He still has his 6 PIPs to command the Paratroop Brigade, for that turn.
The second time the Israeli player rolls a "6" for his command PIP the Karen Armour Brigade enters on the eastern table edge but not within 6" of them northern table edge. This does not cost the Israeli player PIPs. He still has his 6 PIPs to command the Paratroop Brig. and Baram Armour Brigade, for that turn.
The first time the Egyptian player rolls a "6" for his command PIPs the rest of the 16th Armoured Division enters the table on the northern edge of the table, but not within 6" of the eastern table edge. This does not cost the Egyptian player PIPs. He still has his 6 PIPs to command the rest of the 16th Armour Division, for that turn .
The second time the Egyptian player rolls a "6" for his command PIPs the 1st Armour Brigade of the 21st Armour Division enters the table on the northern edge of the table, but not within 6" of the eastern table edge. This does not cost the Egyptian player PIPs. He still has his 6 PIPs to command the 16th Armour Division, for that turn .
The third time the Egyptian player rolls a "6" for his command PIPs the 14th Armour Brigade of the 21st Armour Division enters on the northern edge of the table, but not within 6" of the eastern table edge. Also, the Armour Division of the 7th Division enters the table on the southern edge of the table
Victory Conditions
When a division (or brigade, if under a separate command) reaches it break point it cannot advance on the enemy and must start withdrawing from the table. The command roll, then indicates how many units elements may remain stationary. The rest of the elements from that Division (or brigade if under separate command) must make a full move toward the table edge they entered on. Israeli paratroopers must withdraw to the east. Egyptian 16th Division must withdraw to the north.
If at the end of 18 turns, the Israeli player has been successful in moving the bridging unit off the west edge of the table, by the road through Matzmed, he wins. If not, the Egyptian player wins
Special Rules
1. Elements in column can move at triple speed down a road as long as they do not combine their movement with any cross-country movement and do not come within 12" of any enemy elements.
2. All contour lines block line-of sight for all units, except those actually touching the ridgeline or contour line.
3. The Chinese Farm was an experimental farm laced with irrigation ditches, which provided excellent infantry cover and natural anti-tank ditches. As such, the Chinese Farm area is considered impassible terrain for all elements except infantry. Infantry within the farm area get +2 bonus in fire combat from any direction and +2 in close combat, even if attacked in the front and rear.
