Braniff Snuff - Whisky

Page history last edited by Tony Barr 13 years, 1 month ago

Another new release from Villiger and another good effort. My comments on the Braniff Caribbean are worth repeating:

"...the label on the rather stylish dispenser (aka sneezebox) informs us that the snuff is made in Germany rather than Switzerland so I suspect the snuff is made for Villiger by either Pöschl or Bernard (probably the former). While I don't really approve of the dispenser (all such dispensers are far from airtight, resulting all too quickly in dry and stale snuff) the contents of the sample I was sent are both fresh and tasty."

The snuff, like the Braniff Caribbean, is a mid-brown medium snuff, more heavily mentholated than the Caribbean and with a stronger flavouring. Yes, I do get whisky; the peaty, smokiness is there, but there is also a fairly prominent sweet chocolate overtone which comes out more the longer the snuff stays in the nose. Without the menthol I think this snuff would be superb, five stars all the way, but the level of menthol, while not excessive, does detract from the quality in my opinion. Perhaps Villiger would consider releasing an unmentholated version as well. Having said that, the Braniff Whisky snuff is sure to find plenty of fans.
